A platformer is a kind of game genre that uses the traversal of terrain with significant elevation differences as a part of its major game mechanics. Players often control characters that must be made to jump from platform to platform to get through twisted buildings and across treacherous landscapes. Because of its concentration on movement, additional player actions such as double jumps, and even wall jumps may be included to allow for more complex and interesting level design.
